Thoughts on Research and a Policy Lunch
Today was a work day but my head was still swimming with all the reading I’ve done. I’ve read so much on women running for office and I’m learning a great deal, too. It’s turning my thoughts on the subject upside down. I spoke for awhile with one of my colleagues as I was driving to work. She and I couldn’t be farther apart on the political spectrum, but we are finding a healthy respect for how the other one thinks. And I think that’s a good thing.
The first person I saw when I got to a policy lunch I was attending was the Interim Dean from the SPIA school, my dean. He was talking to a former student and I walked up and introduced myself. He knew who I was and in the back of my mind, I think I may have interviewed him sometime in my media past. He was very nice and when I told him my reading is making me rethink my theories on things, he seemed impressed.
After lunch, I headed north to the Apple Store to get my laptop fixed and then while I was waiting–which is what you always do at the Apple Store–I worked, returned emails, calls and generally, followed up on things.
Tonight, I’m going to finish the initial reading of my literature review. Tomorrow, I’ll start actually writing the research design paper and then get ready for Thanksgiving.
Now, I’m realistic. I won’t be doing school work or anything else by Mom and Oma things on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Saturday is football and then Sunday is reading for Monday and Monday is finishing the presentation for Wednesday…. You get the picture.
